Deacon Generoso (George) Sica

Deacon Generoso (George) Sica, who served at St. Joseph’s parish in Somers for 11 years, died Feb. 20 at Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven, Conn. He was 75.

Deacon Sica was ordained in 2011 and served at St. Joseph, 2011-2022. ​​He faithfully participated in the sacramental and liturgical life of the parish, and was engaged in service ministries to the homebound, nursing homes, hospitals, homeless, food pantry, young adult and youth groups.

Born in Guardia di Lombardi, Italy, he came to the United States at age 14 and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He owned a beauty shop before serving in Vietnam, and after the war, he worked for Prudential Insurance and owned a deli.

His wife of 53 years, Marguerite; daughters, Gina Cornacchio, Christina Lenway and Marisa Bowring; and son, Tony, survive him.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated Feb. 23 at St. Joseph’s, with Auxiliary Bishop Edmund J. Whalen as the principal celebrant and Father John M. Lagiovane, pastor of St. Joseph’s, as homilist.
Burial was in Mount Calvary Cemetery, White Plains.
