DeRosa Leads St. Patrick’s to CYO Golf Title

Joseph DeRosa shot a 42 to capture the boys’ individual title and lead St. Patrick’s to the school/parish team championship at the Dr. Theodore A. Atlas Memorial CYO Grammar School Junior Golf Tournament June 28 at Silver Lake Golf Course on Staten Island.

Lauren Neuhaus had a 62, and Frank Bruno added a 67 for St. Patrick’s.

Abigail Garcia of Sacred Heart finished with a 35 to win the girls championship for a second consecutive year. Sienne Anderson of Our Lady Star of the Sea placed second with a 46.

The golf event, sponsored by Dr. Theodore A. Atlas Foundation, is named for a Staten Island doctor who founded two Staten Island hospitals and served as medical director of six nursing homes. His son, boxing trainer and commentator Teddy Atlas, started the foundation in 1997.

The nine-hole golf tournament returned to June after being pushed back to September last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Westchester Putnam CYO Junior Golf Outing—Sarah Brannigan had a 43 to capture the high school division at the tournament June 28 at Pleasantville Country Club.

John McCarthy and Quinn Baelis followed with a 44 and 47, respectively.

In the seventh-eighth grade division, Matthew Clyman placed first with a 45, followed by John Canale’s 48 and Tyler Challice’s 49.

Conor Carty won the fifth-sixth grade division with a 46. Joseph Bangali was second with a 48, and Liam Uhrlass shot a 53 for third place.
