The University of Notre Dame Alumni Club of Staten Island will hold its 19th annual Eve of Solemn Remembrance at Our Lady of Pity Church on Staten Island Thursday, Sept. 10, at 7 p.m.

The service commemorating the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001 will include a concelebrated Mass with Auxiliary Bishop John J. O’Hara, episcopal vicar for Southern Manhattan and Staten Island, as principal celebrant.

Father John Wroblewski, pastor of Our Lady of Pity and St. Anthony of Padua parish, and Msgr. Ferdinando Berardi, pastor of Blessed Sacrament parish and chaplain of the Notre Dame Alumni Club of Staten Island, will join Bishop O’Hara on the altar.

The Mass will be livestreamed on the club’s website: http://statenisland.undclub.org/

“This year’s service will be scaled down with the number of participants and social distancing observed throughout the church,” said Joe Delaney, who has directed the Eve of Solemn Remembrance for the Notre Dame club for the past 19 years.

“We could not cancel this service because of Covid-19. We have scaled down our service, but we have vowed to maintain our Catholic tradition of providing spiritual comfort and assurance to our fellow Staten Islanders who lost a loved one on 9/11.”
