Father Albert Sofia, S.D.B.

Father Albert Sofia, S.D.B., who had been a parochial vicar at two parishes in Port Chester and a principal at Salesian High School in New Rochelle, died

Dec. 11 at St. Mary’s Life Center in Orange, N.J. He was 85. In Port Chester he served at Holy Rosary, 1995-1998, and Corpus Christi, 1982-1983. He was principal of Salesian three times, 1975-1978, 1960-1966 and 1956-1958, and taught math and science there, 1952-1954. He also served in New Jersey, Florida,

Massachusetts and Louisiana as a principal, teacher, development director and treasurer. He served briefly as director of development for the Salesians’

New Rochelle Province. Born in New York City, he entered the Salesians in Newton, N.J., in 1936 and professed vows in 1941. He was ordained in 1952. He held a degree in physics from Fordham University. A Funeral Mass was celebrated Dec. 13 at Don Bosco Prep High School, where he had been a member of the Salesian community. Burial was in the Salesian Cemetery in Goshen.
