Father Anthony McGuire, O.F.M.

Father Anthony McGuire, O.F.M., pastor emeritus of St. Francis Xavier parish in Narrowsburg and former parochial vicar at St. Stephen of Hungary parish in Manhattan, died Nov. 6 at Holy Name Friary in Ringwood, N.J. He was 88.

He served at St. Francis Xavier from 1982 to 1994 and at St. Stephen of Hungary, 1975-1976. He also was assigned to parishes in Paterson and Butler, N.J., and New Bedford, Mass.

He served on the faculty of St. Joseph Seraphic Seminary in Callicoon, 1958-1967.

Born in Wilmington, Del., he entered the Franciscans of Holy Name Province in 1946, professing final vows in 1950. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1952. He held a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from St. Bonaventure University.

A sister, Beatrice Ryan, survives him.

A Funeral Mass was offered Nov. 9 at Holy Name Friary Cortona Chapel in Ringwood, N.J. Burial was in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Butler, N.J.
