Father Christopher Argano, parochial vicar of St. Columba’s parish in Hopewell Junction, has been appointed vocations director for the archdiocese, effective July 1, the Cardinal’s Office has announced.

As vocations director, Father Argano, 34, succeeds Father Enrique Salvo, who had served in the post since 2012.

Father Salvo will become administrator of St. Anselm-St. Roch parish in the Bronx.

Speaking with CNY last week, Father Argano called his new assignment “an incredible responsibility” to promote the archdiocesan priesthood through the recruitment and interviews of men considering a priestly vocation.

With a total of 19 priests ordained to serve the archdiocese in the past two years, Father Argano said he looks forward to carrying on the “good work of Father Enrique.”

“As I learn and grow in this position, I will bring my own gifts and talents to continue the good streak,” he said.

Father Argano had served at St. Columba’s since 2012. Before that, he was parochial vicar at Sacred Heart parish, Monroe, 2009-2012.

He was ordained in 2009, in Cardinal Dolan’s first class of new priests as Archbishop of New York. Father Argano studied for the priesthood at St. John Neumann Residence and St. Joseph’s Seminary, Dunwoodie.

Born in Brooklyn, he moved with his family to Staten Island at age 12 and is a graduate of Msgr. Farrell High School. He received a bachelor’s degree in political science from Siena College in Loudonville.
