Father Arthur J. Dwyer, M.M.

Father Arthur J. Dwyer, M.M., who served in Chile for 14 years, died Oct. 26 in the Assisted Living Center at Maryknoll in Ossining. He was 98.

Father Dwyer was in Chile, 1959-1973, where he served as a pastor, first consultor to the Chile regional superior, and was elected chapter delegate from the Chile Region to the general chapter and second assistant general of the Maryknoll Society. He also served at Maryknoll and in California, Hawaii, Peru and Italy.

Born in East Boston, Mass., he entered Maryknoll Junior College in 1940, took his final vows in 1948 and was ordained to the priesthood at Maryknoll in 1949. He earned his doctorate in canon law from the University of St. Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum), Rome.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated Oct. 29 at Maryknoll Society Center, Ossining. Burial of cremated remains will take place at a future date in the Maryknoll Society Columbarium.
