Father Cornelius G. Conti, O.F.M.

Father Cornelius G. Conti, O.F.M., who served in parishes and youth ministries in the archdiocese, died Nov. 14 at Holy Name Friary in Ringwood, N.J. He was 77.

He was parochial vicar of St. Stephen of Hungary parish, Manhattan, 1983-1984, and Our Lady of Angels, the Bronx, 1979-1981. From 1973 to 1977 he assisted with the Franciscan Youth Apostolate at St. Francis of Assisi parish, Manhattan.

He also served in Boston and in Jamaica, West Indies, and was an administrator and later an athletic coach at St. Bonaventure University in Olean.

Born in Erie, Pa., he entered the Franciscans’ Holy Name Province in 1956 and professed final vows in 1960. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1962.

He held a bachelor’s degree from Gannon College in Erie and masters’ degrees from St. Bonaventure and Washington Theological Union.

He is survived by a brother, Richard. Father John O’Connor, O.F.M., minister provincial, offered the Funeral Mass Nov. 18 at St. Bonaventure University Chapel, with burial in St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Allegany.
