Father Donald J. Haren, M.M., who was a missioner to Guatemala and El Salvador, died on June 24 at St. Teresa's Residence in Ossining. He was 88. He was first assigned to the Maryknoll missions in Guatemala in 1956. There he served at mountain parishes and was pastor of the cathedral parish in Huehuetenango. In 1962 he was assigned to El Salvador with three other Maryknoll priests as the first Maryknoll missioners in that country. He was appointed pastor of the newly formed parish of Mother of the Savior in Santa Ana. He was reassigned to Guatemala in 1968 and served at parishes in Guatemala City until 1972, when he was reassigned as regional director of mission education and promotion in the Detroit area. From 1975 to 1983, he did parish work in Guatemala City. He was pastor of a parish in the remote Peten region, 1984-1992. Born in Akron, Ohio, he entered Maryknoll in 1937. He was ordained to the priesthood for Maryknoll in 1947. A Funeral Mass was offered June 28 in Queen of Apostles Chapel at the Maryknoll Society Center in Ossining. Burial was in Maryknoll Cemetery.
