Father Donan McGovern, O.F.M.

Father Donan McGovern, O.F.M., who served as promoter for the Franciscan Missionary Union for 10 years, died Oct. 12 at St. Anthony Shrine in Boston, Mass. He was 82.

He was promoter for the Franciscan Missionary Union, based at St. Francis Friary in Manhattan, 1979-1989. He served as parochial vicar of Holy Cross parish in the Bronx, 1977-1979, and also served at parishes in New Jersey, Rhode Island and Virginia.

He served at the province’s mission in Alto La Paz, Bolivia, 1959-1971.

Born in Forest Hills, he entered the Franciscans of Holy Name Province in 1949. He professed final vows in 1953 and was ordained to the priesthood in 1955. He held a bachelor’s degree from St. Bonaventure University in Allegany.

His sister, Margaret Mary Lemieux, survives him. A Funeral Mass was offered Oct. 18 at St. Anthony Shrine in Boston. Burial followed at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in West Roxbury, Mass.
