Father Francis B. Higdon, M.M.

Father Francis B. Higdon, M.M., who served as a missioner to Bolivia for 31 years, died Oct. 19 at the assisted living center in Maryknoll in Ossining. He was 80.

Father Higdon was in Bolivia, 2009-2017 and 1967-1990. After retirement in 2015, he remained in Bolivia for two more years before returning to the United States. He also served in Washington, D.C., Pennsylvania, Illinois, Colorado and Brazil.

Born in New Haven, Ky., he entered the Maryknoll Fathers in 1958, professed final vows in 1966 and was ordained a priest in 1967. He earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Maryknoll College, Glen Ellyn, Ill.

His sisters, Patricia Barnes, Joan Mattingly and Norma Lindgrin; and his brothers, Don, Charles, Francis, Bill, Tom and Paul, survive him.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated Oct. 28 in Queen of Apostles Chapel at Maryknoll, Ossining. His cremains were placed in the columbarium at Maryknoll.
