Father Franks Appointed Manhattan College Chaplain

Father Thomas H. Franks, O.F.M. Cap., has been appointed chaplain of Manhattan College in the Riverdale section of the Bronx.

For the past two years, Father Franks served as the pastor of Holy Cross and St. John the Baptist parish in Manhattan. Before the merger of the two parishes, he was pastor, 2011-2015, and parochial vicar, 2008-2011, at St. John the Baptist.

He served as a missionary of mercy during the Jubilee Year of Mercy in 2016, with faculties conferred by Pope Francis. Since 2012, he has been deputy chief chaplain of the Metropolitan Transit Authority.

Father Franks received a bachelor’s degree in psychology and philosophy from Fordham University in 2003, when he graduated summa cum laude and was class valedictorian. He earned his Master of Divinity in sacramental theology from Weston Jesuit School of Theology in Cambridge, Mass.

He professed final vows with the Capuchin Franciscans of the Province of St. Mary in 2003 and was ordained a priest in 2008.
