Father J. Donald Mc Ginnis, M.M.

Father J. Donald Mc Ginnis, M.M., who served as a Maryknoll missioner to Taiwan, died April 15 at the Assisted Living Center at Maryknoll in Ossining. He was 93.

His service in Taiwan ended in 2011, five years after his official retirement. His assignments in Taiwan included service as a pastor and administrator, and as a university instructor and campus minister.

In the 1990s, he served as English secretary of the Chinese Regional Bishops’ Conference, and as a pastor. Earlier, he taught for four years at a teachers’ college and a university in southern Taiwan.

He also served at the Maryknoll Development House in Yonkers and as director of the development house in South Orange, N.J., and was a parochial vicar in New Jersey parishes.

Born in Philadelphia, he was ordained in 1953 after studying for the priesthood at Maryknoll Seminary in Ossining. He studied the Mandarin language at Yale University.

Father Mc Ginnis is survived by his brother, John, and his sister, Marie Albertson.

A Funeral Mass was offered April 18 at Queen of Apostles Chapel at Maryknoll. Burial was in Maryknoll Society Cemetery.
