Father James G. Greene, M.M.

Father James G. Greene, M.M., who served for 51 years in Mexico and was Maryknoll's regional superior there, died June 13 at St. Teresa's Residence at Maryknoll in Ossining, where he had lived since 2000. He was 90. He was pastor of a parish in Campeche, 1976-1991, where he supervised the construction of a parish church. He then did part-time ministry near Cuernavaca. He returned to Maryknoll in 1994. Following ordination in 1943, he was assigned to the Maryknoll mission in Merida, Mexico. He then served as a pastor in Cozumel and Bacalar. He served as regional superior, 1961-1966. Born in Queens, he studied at Cathedral College in Brooklyn before entering Maryknoll in Clarks Summit, Pa., in 1936. He later studied at Maryknoll Seminary in Ossining. A Funeral Mass was offered June 15 at Queen of Apostles Chapel at Maryknoll, with burial at Maryknoll Cemetery.
