Father John Ahearn, M.M.

Father John Ahearn, M.M., who served as a Maryknoll missioner to Hong Kong for 45 years, died Jan. 14 in Woodstock, Vt. He was 72.

Father Ahearn served in Hong Kong, 1973-2018, where he was a pastor and a teacher, a member of the Hong Kong Regional Council and dean of the Northeast New Territories of Hong Kong.

He returned to the United States in 2018 and resided in Vermont.
Born in Brooklyn, he entered the Maryknoll Fathers in 1964 and professed final vows in 1972. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1973.

He received a bachelor’s degree from Maryknoll College, Glen Ellyn, Ill., and a master’s from the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Ind.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated Feb. 4 at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church, Woodstock, Vt., and Memorial Masses were offered Jan. 20 in Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Hong Kong and Feb. 6 at Holy Spirit Chapel at Maryknoll in Ossining. His cremains were interred in Cheung Chau Catholic Cemetery, Hong Kong.
