Father John Conti

Father John Conti, the oldest living priest of the archdiocese, died Nov. 8. He was 99.

Father Conti served as parochial vicar of St. Lucy parish, the Bronx, 1987-1992 and 1975-1987; Holy Rosary, Staten Island, 1981-1987; St. Francis of Assisi, Mount Kisco, 1981; St. Benedict’s, the Bronx, 1978-1981; and Holy Family, Staten Island, 1968-1975.

Father Conti retired in 1992.

Born in Canneto, Lipari, Italy, he attended Lipari Regional Seminary in Catania. He studied three years of philosophy and four years of theology.

He was ordained July 21, 1946 by Bishop Salvato Re in Lipari, and was incardinated into the archdiocese Aug. 6, 1978.

A Funeral Mass and burial will be offered in accord with the family.
