Father John Francis Coholan, M.M.

Father John Francis Coholan, M.M., who was a missioner to the Philippines, died Dec. 13 at St. Teresa's Residence in Ossining. He was 88. In 1960, he received his first overseas assignment, serving as a parish priest in the Tegum Diocese in the Philippines. He came back to the United States where he taught in Illinois, from 1965 to 1968, until returning to the Philippines. In 1971, he became dean of studies and assistant spiritual director at St. Francis Xavier College Seminary and also served as chaplain at Philippine Women's College, both in Davao City, until his retirement in 1997. Born in Boston, he entered Maryknoll in 1937 and was ordained in 1946. He is survived by his sister, Sister Elizabeth Miles, O.P. A Funeral Mass was offered Dec. 18 at Queen of Apostles Chapel at Maryknoll Society Center in Ossining, with burial at Maryknoll Cemetery.
