Father John P. Lavin, C.Ss.R.

Father John P. Lavin, C.Ss.R., who served at St. Cecilia’s parish in East Harlem for six years, died Feb. 12. He was 80.

Father Lavin was at St. Cecilia’s as pastor, 1981-1984, and parochial vicar, 1984-1987.

He also served in Maryland, Massachusetts and Puerto Rico.
Born in Boston, he professed first vows with the Redemptorists in 1961 and final vows in 1964.

He studied for the priesthood at Mount St. Alphonsus Seminary, Esopus, where he was ordained in 1966.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated Feb. 21 in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Mission Church, Boston. Burial was in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Roslindale, Mass.
