Father Joseph B. Neville, S.J.

Father Joseph B. Neville, S.J., assistant principal at Regis High School in Manhattan for 10 years, died on Sept. 3 at Murray-Weigel Hall in the Bronx. He was 86.

Father Neville was at Regis, 1962-1972. He taught religious studies at his alma mater, Fordham Prep, 1973-1979, and also was a teacher in the Philippines.

Father Neville gave retreats and was engaged in spiritual direction at Mount Manresa Retreat House on Staten Island in 1987. He also served in that capacity in Syracuse and Morristown, N.J.

Born in the Bronx, he entered the Society of Jesus at the Jesuit novitiate at St. Andrew-on-Hudson in Poughkeepsie in 1949, was ordained in 1960 and professed his final vows in 1978.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Sept. 10 in the Panasci Family Chapel at Le Moyne College in Syracuse. Burial followed at Jesuit Cemetery in Auriesville.
