Father Joseph L. Doran, S.D.B.

Father Joseph L. Doran, S.D.B., who served as chaplain at the motherhouse of the Parish Visitors of Mary Immaculate in Monroe for 18 years, died March 2 of Covid-19 at Joe Raso Hospice Residence in New City. He was 92.

Father Doran served the Parish Visitors of Mary Immaculate, 1999-2017. He taught math, general science and religion at Salesian High School, New Rochelle, 1967-1969 and 1959-1960.

He also served in New Jersey, Florida, Indiana, Alabama, Massachusetts and on the island of Eleuthera in the Bahamas.

Born in Jamestown, Pa., he entered the Salesians of Don Bosco in 1956, professed final vows in 1962 and was ordained to the priesthood in 1966.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Don Bosco College, Newton, N.J.; a master’s in theology from Villanova University, Villanova, Pa.; and a master’s of theological studies from Pontifical John Paul II Institute, Washington, D.C.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated March 5 at the Marian Shrine, Stony Point. Burial was March 6 at Salesian Cemetery, Goshen.
