Father Leo R. Kennedy, M.M., who served as a pastor and taught catechumens in Tanzania, died Feb. 28 in the Assisted Living Center at Maryknoll in Ossining. He was 90.
Father Kennedy was pastor at Nyalikungu and worked with newly ordained priests in the 1980s and 1990s. Teaching catechumens was a primary focus of his ministry.
He served at other parishes in Tanzania before and after his service at Nyalikungu.
Born in Worcester, Mass., he entered the Maryknoll Fathers in 1949 and was ordained to the priesthood in 1959.
A Funeral Mass was offered March 10 in Queen of Apostles Chapel at Maryknoll. Burial was at the Maryknoll Society Cemetery.
