Father Michael Browne, S.J.

Father Michael Browne, S.J., who served for a year in Manhattan, died Feb. 6 at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, N.J. He was 65. He was a parochial vicar at Nativity parish in Manhattan, 1972-1973. Since 1973 he had served at St. Peter's Prep and St. Peter's Grammar School in Jersey City, N.J., with assignments as a teacher, chaplain and administrator of the Jesuit residence at the Prep. Born in Brooklyn, he entered the Jesuits in 1958 and professed vows in 1960. He studied at Loyola Seminary in Shrub Oak and Regis College in Toronto and was ordained in 1971. A Funeral Mass was celebrated Feb. 10 at St. Peter's Church in Jersey City, with burial in the Jesuit Cemetery at Auriesville.
