Father Paul Minchak, O.F.M. Cap.

Father Paul Minchak, O.F.M. Cap., who was a missioner to Guam and Hawaii for more than 30 years, died Jan. 15 in Dobbs Ferry. He was 73.

He served at parishes in Hawaii, 1984-2013, and Guam, 1975-1976 and 1981-1984.

In the archdiocese, he taught and served as vocation recruiter at St. Mary’s Seminary, Garrison, 1971-1974, and was chaplain to the Sisters of the Good Shepherd, Peekskill, 1971. He was novice director and guardian at St. Francis Friary, Garrison, 1979-1981.

He was novice director for the Province of St. Mary at St. Lawrence Friary in Milton, Mass., 1976-1979. He also taught in Smithtown.

Born in Yonkers, he entered the Capuchin Franciscan Friars of the Province of St. Mary in 1961 and professed final vows in 1966. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1969.

He held a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from St. Anthony’s Friary in Hudson, N.H., and a master’s in history from Seton Hall University in South Orange, N.J.

He is survived by his brother, Eugene, and sisters, Clare Kmetz, Janice Osowicki and Celeste Akins.

A Funeral Mass was offered Jan. 21 at Sacred Heart Church, Yonkers. Burial was in Province of St. Mary Cemetery in Yonkers.
