Father Peter A. Miqueli

Father Peter A. Miqueli, former pastor of St. Frances de Chantal parish, the Bronx and St. Frances Xavier Cabrini on Roosevelt Island, died July 9. He was 57.

He served as pastor of St. Frances de Chantal, 2012-2015, and of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini, 2003-2012, where he previously was dministrator for a year.

He was a parochial vicar at the following parishes: St. Sylvester’s, Holy Family, St. Rita’s and St. Clare’s, all on Staten Island, and St. John the Baptist, Yonkers.

Born in Brentwood, Long Island, he attended Cathedral College and St. Joseph’s Seminary, Dunwoodie. He was ordained in 1991.

Father Miqueli stepped down as pastor of St. Frances de Chantal in December 2015 after allegations of sexual and financial improprieties.

In 2017, the Bronx parish was reimbursed $22,450 after an investigation by the Bronx District Attorney’s Office found Father Miqueli was improperly reimbursed for personal expenses from the parish account. No criminal charges were filed.

In March 2019, Cardinal Dolan suspended Father Miqueli and prohibited him from celebrating Mass and administering Church sacraments.

A Funeral Mass and interment will be offered at the convenience of the family at a later date.
