Father Thomas J. Barrett, C.Ss.R.

Father Thomas J. Barrett, C.Ss.R., who served at Our Lady of Perpetual Help parish in Manhattan for six years, died Feb. 15. He was 79.

Father Barrett was at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 1981-1987. He also served at Most Holy Redeemer, Manhattan, 1988-1990, and Immaculate Conception, the Bronx, 1968-1970.

Father Barrett conducted pastoral research for the Archdiocese of New York, 1979-1981. He also served in Canandaigua, Maryland, Indiana, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Ohio.

Born in Brooklyn, he entered the Redemptorists in 1962 and professed final vows in 1965. He was ordained to priesthood in 1967 after studies at Mount St. Alphonsus in Esopus.

He received a master’s degree and a Ph.D., both in sociology, from Fordham University, the Bronx.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated Feb. 23 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Brooklyn. Burial was in Resurrection Cemetery, Staten Island.
