Father Vincent M. McDonald, O. Carm.

Father Vincent M. McDonald, O. Carm., who served as pastor of Our Lady of the Scapular parish in Manhattan and also had several other parish assignments in the archdiocese, died Jan. 4. He was 91.

He was pastor of Our Lady of the Scapular from 1979 to 1982. He was parochial vicar at Transfiguration parish in Tarrytown, 1992-1996, and Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Middletown, 1988-1992.

He taught at St. Simon Stock School in the Bronx, 1961-1964, and also was director of the Third Order of Carmelites until 1970. He taught at St. Albert’s Junior Seminary in Middletown, 1948-1955, and later at a high school in Auburn.

He was a member of the Carmelites’ provincial council, 1955-1958.

He most recently resided at St. Albert’s Priory, Middletown.

Born in the Bronx, he entered the Carmelites’ North American Province of St. Elias in 1939 and made final vows in 1943. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1947.

He held a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and a master’s in history, both from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.

He is survived by a sister, Dorothy McDonald.

A Funeral Mass was offered Jan. 9 at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Middletown. Burial was at the Carmelite Cemetery there.
