Father Vincent M. McNally, S.J., died on his 97th birthday, Nov. 29, at Murray-Weigel Hall, the Jesuit infirmary in the Bronx.

A priest for 66 years, he served as a chaplain on Wards Island in Manhattan, 1976-1979 and in ministries at retreat centers on Staten Island, 1979-1982 and in Auriesville, 1983-1999.

He served in the Philippines for nearly two decades, 1950-1969, including as principal of three Jesuit high schools and as rector/president of two colleges in Naga and Zamboanga. He also served in administration in several Jesuit communities in the Philippines in Manila and elsewhere.

He returned to the United States in 1969. From 1972 to 1976 he was the assistant to the vice-provincial for social and pastoral ministry. In 1999 he moved to Canisius College in Buffalo, working as campus minister and in the community in pastoral ministry.

Born in Brooklyn, he attended Brooklyn Prep and Fordham University. He entered the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) in 1935. He completed his philosophy studies at Woodstock College and studied theology at Weston College in Massachusetts. He was ordained in 1948.

A Funeral Mass was offered Dec. 2 in the chapel of Murray-Weigel Hall. Burial was at the Jesuit cemetery in Auriesville.
