Re: the article about military chaplains (CNY, July 7).

My late husband John, a U.S. Marine (6 Division), took part in the invasion of Okinawa during World War II.

One time, he got the chance to attend Mass in the field. He said they were dirty and tired and kept their helmets on. When kneeling to receive Holy Communion, the priest bent down and said, “See you later, Scully.”

When John looked up, he couldn’t believe his eyes. The priest was from his home parish in Valley Cottage. What a blessing these chaplains are.
