Five Cemeteries Offering Memorial Day Masses

Consistent with the Catholic tradition to remember the dead in a special way on Memorial Day, Masses will be held Monday, May 27, at five cemeteries under the care of the Trustees of St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

“The Masses will be offered for all those buried in our cemeteries and for the men and women who served in the military and made the ultimate sacrifice for our country,” said Scott Hanley, managing director of the Trustees of St. Patrick’s Cathedral, who announced the Mass schedule.

The schedule for May 27 follows:

Ascension Cemetery, Airmont: Mass at 11 a.m. in the chapel.

Calvary Cemetery, Long Island City, Queens: Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Calixtus Chapel, First Calvary.

Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne: Mass at 11:45 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel.

Resurrection Cemetery, Staten Island: Mass at 11 a.m. at the Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum. The principal celebrant will be Msgr. Peter Finn, dean of Staten Island and pastor of Blessed Sacrament parish.

St. Mary’s Cemetery, Rye Brook: Mass at 10 a.m. at the mausoleum. The principal celebrant will be Father Timothy Wiggins, chaplain of Archbishop Stepinac High School, White Plains.
