The Funeral Mass for EMT Yadira Arroyo was celebrated March 25 at St. Nicholas of Tolentine Church in the Bronx. The principal celebrant and homilist was Father Christopher Keenan, O.F.M., an FDNY chaplain.

Among those in attendance were Mayor Bill de Blasio, Fire Commissioner Daniel A. Nigro, and thousands of FDNY members, family and friends.

“Yadi was a matriarch of the station,” said FDNY Lt. George Lampon of Station 26 in the Bronx, where Ms. Arroyo served for 14 years. He said she would “live on through the lives she saved and people she helped.”

Ms. Arroyo, 44, died in the line of duty March 16 in the Bronx after being struck while attempting to stop the theft of her ambulance.

She is survived by her five sons, her parents and two siblings.
