Jerome John Balvo died April 17 at Ozanam Hall Nursing Home in Bayside, Queens. He was 98.

He was the husband of the late Helen Fitzgerald Balvo, who died in 1993; and the father of Archbishop Charles Balvo, apostolic nuncio to the Czech Republic; the late James Balvo, who died in 1988; Ellen Llewellyn, wife of Harry E. Llewellyn Jr.; Catherine Zwilling, wife of Joseph Zwilling, director of communications for the archdiocese; and Christine Eisenhut, wife of Eric Eisenhut.

Born in Brooklyn, he grew up in Pittsburgh and returned to Brooklyn, where he was married Jan. 14, 1950 at St. Edmund Church. In 1959, the family moved to Suffern, where he lived until 1994 and was an active member of Sacred Heart parish. He moved to Easton, Pa., in 1995, and lived there until six years ago, when he became a resident at Ozanam Hall.

He is also survived by eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

A burial service will take place April 23 at Gethsemane Cemetery in Easton, Pa. A Memorial Mass will be scheduled at a later date.
