Joan Maguire, a longtime volunteer with the Cardinal Cooke Guild who was a past president and board member of the Ladies of Charity of the Archdiocese of New York, died Nov. 29 at her home in Manhattan. She was 82.
She served as president of the Ladies of Charity, 1997-2000. The Ladies of Charity operates under the auspices of archdiocesan Catholic Charities. She volunteered daily for years with the Cardinal Cooke Guild in Manhattan.
Born in Queens, she was the executive assistant to the chairman of Borden Inc., for 15 years, beginning in 1947.
A Funeral Mass was offered Dec. 13 at St. John the Evangelist Church in Manhattan. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery, Queens.
