Luke Sweeney, father of Father Luke Sweeney, archdiocesan director of vocations, died April 21 at St. John’s Hospital in Yonkers. He was 86.
An electrician, he worked for 50 years for what is now Metro-North Railroad. He was born in New Bedford, Mass., and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He had lived in Irvington for 46 years.
He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Esther Donovan Sweeney. Besides Father Sweeney, he is survived by his stepson, Mark Donovan Jr.
Father Sweeney offered the Funeral Mass on April 24 at Immaculate Conception Church in Irvington. Burial was in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
