Msgr. Francis V. Boyle

Msgr. Francis V. Boyle, who served as pastor of Blessed Sacrament parish on Staten Island and Our Lady of Perpetual Help parish in Pelham Manor, died March 13. He was 91.

He was pastor of Blessed Sacrament from January 1991 until his retirement there in July 2004, when he became pastor emeritus. At Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Pelham Manor, he was pastor from 1979 to 1991, after first serving as administrator for six months.

He was parochial vicar of St. Gabriel, the Bronx, 1959-1968, and of St. Malachy’s, the Actors’ Chapel in Manhattan, 1955-1959.

Cardinal Dolan celebrated the Funeral Mass March 18 at Holy Family Church in New Rochelle. Msgr. Dennis P. Keane, pastor of Holy Family in New Rochelle, was the homilist.

In 1968, Msgr. Boyle was appointed procurator at St. Joseph’s Seminary in Dunwoodie, and of the former Cathedral College Preparatory Seminary in Manhattan.

In 1974, he was named director of development at Dunwoodie. At the seminary, he also served as dean of students, professor of homiletics and director of the deacon internship program and the field education program.

He served on the archdiocesan Priests Personnel Board and the Priests’ Council, and was assistant director of the Priests’ Conference on Pastoral Life.

Born in Manhattan, he attended St. Francis de Sales School in Manhattan, Cardinal Hayes High School, the Bronx, Cathedral College and St. Joseph’s Seminary, Dunwoodie.

He was ordained in 1955 and named a monsignor in 1995.

For the past 16 years he resided at St. John Vianney Priests Residence in the Bronx. During his retirement he assisted at Annunciation Church in Crestwood.

He earned a master’s degree in fundamental theology from Manhattan College.

Survivors include a brother, John Edward.

Burial was at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.
