Msgr. James J. Rynne, a New Yorker who was a former pastor in the Diocese of Camden, N.J., died March 1. He was 74.

Born in New York City, he studied for the priesthood at Christ the King Seminary in Olean. He was ordained in 1959.

He served as parochial vicar at several parishes before being appointed administrator of Holy Maternity parish in Audubon in 1978. He was pastor of St. John Vianney parish in Deptford from 1993 until his retirement in 2003.

He is survived by two sisters, Evelyn Fischer and Maureen Vail, and a brother, Thomas.

A Funeral Mass was offered March 7 at St. John Vianney Church. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery in Cherry Hill, N.J.
