New Leaders Named for Sisters of the Divine Compassion

The Sisters, Associates and Companions of the Divine Compassion recently announced the installation of their 2020-2024 leadership team.

They are: Sister Laura Donovan, R.D.C., president; Sister Carol Peterson, R.D.C., first councilor; Sister Kristin Donworth, R.D.C., second councilor and Sister Susan Becker, R.D.C., third councilor.

“Our mission of compassion calls us forward, as it has for over 134 years,” Sister Donovan said. “We remain an interdependent community, dedicated to each other and our ministries in social and spiritual welfare, faith formation, human development and education.”

Working collaboratively with the congregation’s associates and companions, Sister Donovan continued, “our dream and passion is to continue meeting the steadily increasing needs of communities, especially during this most challenging time.”

Sister Donovan, a native of White Plains, is serving her second term as president of the congregation. She has also served as principal of Good Counsel Academy High School in White Plains and dean of students at Preston High School, the Bronx. She was chair of the science department and a science teacher at both Good Counsel Academy High and Preston High.

Sister Donworth, a White Plains native, is serving her third term on the leadership team. She is the liaison to the Health Care team and is the Properties, Building and Archives administrator. In addition to teaching in several schools and serving as an administrator at Good Counsel Academy High and as a director at Good Counsel Elementary School, she has served at Siena House in the Bronx, a homeless shelter for women and young children.

Sister Peterson, raised in Putnam Valley,  is serving a second term on the leadership team and is the liaison to the congregation’s Advancement and Finance teams. She served as principal, director of guidance and guidance counselor at Good Counsel Academy High School. She was dean of administration at Preston High School and taught at John F. Kennedy Catholic High School in Somers.

Sister Becker, originally of Mamaroneck, is serving her first term on the leadership team. Among other assignments, she has served as a staff social worker and director of the Substance Abuse unit at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Harrison and as co-director of the congregation’s Spirituality Center. For the past 11 years, she has served as a chaplain at Pace University.

The congregation serves Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess counties, and the Bronx.
