Nora Cronin Presentation Academy in Newburgh will hold its annual Autumn’s Glow Gala at Anthony’s Pier 9, New Windsor, on Sunday, Oct. 30, from 3 to 7 p.m.
The tuition-free Catholic school, enrolling girls from grades 5 to 8, is marking its 10th anniversary.
The first Lantern Honors will be presented. Honorees include Daniel Cronin and the family of the late Sister Nora Cronin, P.B.V.M., for whom the school is named, who have spiritually and financially supported the academy; Catholic Charities Community Services of Orange County and its Girls Circle intervention program; and Dr. Michele Winchester-Vega, the academy's first development director.
Auction items include a baseball signed by the entire San Francisco Giants team, including Hall of Fame player Willie Mays. Jack Stanford, a star player for the Giants, gave the ball to his cousin, Sister Joan Mary Gleason, P.B.V.M., who was in her first year as a teacher at St. Frances of Rome School in the Bronx. She raffled it off to her elementary school student athletes to encourage them to work hard on their studies.
The winner listened to her advice. Robert Hanley, the founder and chief executive officer of Entertainment Fellowship, recently returned the ball to Sister Joan Mary, a 65-year member of the Presentation Sisters, who donated it for another good cause.
