For the 20th consecutive year, the University of Notre Dame Alumni Club of Staten Island will conduct its “Eve of Solemn Remembrance” service commemorating Sept. 11, 2001.

The service is offered to provide spiritual comfort to the families of Staten Islanders who lost loved ones as a result of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center.

Retired Auxiliary Bishop John O’Hara will serve as principal celebrant of the 7:30 p.m. Mass Friday, Sept. 9, at Our Lady of Pity Church on Staten Island. Concelebrants will include Father John Wroblewski, pastor of Our Lady of Pity and St. Anthony of Padua parish, Staten Island, and other priests from Staten Island. Deacons of Staten Island will assist in the liturgy.

A presentation of sacred music by Maura & Company begins at 7 p.m.

Joe Delaney, Notre Dame Club director of the Eve of Solemn Remembrance, said, “This year’s Mass and  service is the Notre Dame Club’s way of saying we will never forget 9/11. Our Catholic faith teaches us that we are united with our deceased loved ones through the communion of saints and the body of Christ. Never is this more meaningful to us than when we unite each year for the Eve of Solemn Remembrance.”

An invitation is extended to all Staten Islanders.
