Our Lady Help of Christians Leads CYO Cheerleading Championships

Our Lady Help of Christians, Staten Island, won three titles at the archdiocese’s CYO Cheerleading Championships at the College of Staten Island March 24.

Twenty-five teams from 11 parishes, 10 from Staten Island and Our Lady of Assumption from the Bronx, competed. Each division crowned an overall winner, and a cheer winner for each age group was awarded for the nonmusical and non-stunting portion of a routine.

Our Lady Help of Christians took first place in the varsity division for athletes up to and including eighth grade, with a score of 78.8. Our Lady Star of the Sea, which won the overall cheer award, was second with 75.5, and St. Joseph-St. Thomas-St. John Neumann placed third with 69.6.

Our Lady Help of Christians won the Biddy Small Division with 72.1 and was the cheer award winner for Biddy small and large teams, competitors up to and including fourth grade. St. Charles and Our Lady Star of the Sea were second and third in Biddy Small Division with 68.0 and 66.3, respectively.

Holy Child claimed first place in the Biddy Large Division with 76.2, followed by Our Lady Star of the Sea and St. Clare with 73.35 and 71.2, respectively.

In the Debs Large Division, St. Charles finished with 75.4 to win the overall routine and cheer awards for the division up to and including sixth grade. Our Lady Star of the Sea and St. Clare were tied for second with 74.5.

In the Debs Small Division, St. Patrick was first with 78.5, followed by St. Joseph-St. Thomas-St. John Neumann and Our Lady Queen of Peace with 74.0 and 70.0, respectively.
