Pastors and Parochial Vicars Appointed

Two priests serving as administrators have been named pastors of their respective parishes, the Archbishop's Office has announced.

Also, two parochial vicars have been appointed, one priest is retiring for medical reasons and one priest will be going on sabbatical.

Father John Tran has been named pastor of St. Peter's, Monticello, and Father James Sidoti, O. Carm., has been named pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Middletown. Both appointments were effective Nov. 1.

The two parochial vicars are Father James Teague, who was appointed to St. Gregory the Great, Harrison, and Father Guozhang Ruan, who was appointed to St. Teresa's, Manhattan. Both appointments were effective Nov. 7.

Msgr. John Woolsey, who was serving as parochial vicar of Holy Family, New Rochelle, has taken retirement for medical reasons, effective Nov. 1.

Father James Healy, pastor of St. Vito's, Mamaroneck, has received approval for a three-month sabbatical to begin Jan. 1.

Father Tran had served as administrator of St. Peter's, Monticello, since September 2008. He also was parochial vicar at St. Peter's, 2003-2008. He was parochial vicar of Our Lady Help of Christians, Staten Island, 2001-2003, and St. Anthony's, Commonwealth Avenue, the Bronx, 1995-1999. From 1999 to 2001, he was chaplain at Montefiore Medical Center, the Bronx. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1995.

Father Sidoti had served as administrator of Our Lady of Mount Carmel since January. Before that he had been parochial vicar of Transfiguration parish, Tarrytown, since 2004. He was director of the National Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Middletown, 2002-2004, and served at Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish, with care for its mission, Our Lady of the Assumption, Bloomingburg, 1999-2002. He was parochial vicar of St. Simon Stock parish, the Bronx, 1992-1993. He also served at a parish in Brooklyn. He was ordained for the Carmelite Fathers in 1992.

Father Teague had served on the faculty of John F. Kennedy Catholic High School in Somers since 1998. Before that he was administrator of St. Peter's parish, Poughkeepsie, for a year. He served as parochial vicar of Holy Family, New Rochelle, 1989-1997, and St. Gregory Barbarigo, Garnerville, 1987-1989. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1987.

Father Ruan has served at St. Joseph's parish on Monroe Street in lower Manhattan since 2004. He was ordained for the Archdiocese of Fuzhou in his native China in 1989.

Msgr. Woolsey had been serving as parochial vicar at Holy Family parish, New Rochelle, since September 2008. He was pastor of St. John the Martyr parish, Manhattan, 1996-2004. He was director of the archdiocesan Office of Christian and Family Development, 1979-1996, and was assistant director for two years before that. He earlier served at St. John the Baptist, Yonkers, and St. Margaret's, Pearl River, and was on the faculty of Cardinal Hayes High School, the Bronx. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1965 and named a monsignor in 1986.

Father Healy has been pastor of St. Vito's since 1992. Before that he was principal of Archbishop Stepinac High School, White Plains, 1988-1992, and was dean of studies there, 1980-1988. He was administrator of Mount St. Mary High School, Newburgh, 1977-1980, and served on the faculty of Cardinal Spellman High School, the Bronx, 1969-1977. He served as parochial vicar at St. John the Evangelist, White Plains, 1967-1969, and the Church of the Magdalene, Pocantico Hills, summer 1967. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1967.
