Pastors Named for Six Parishes

Six pastors have been appointed to parishes in the archdiocese, the Cardinal’s Office has announced.
They are Father Edward Bader, St. Peter, Liberty; Father Joseph Bisignano, St. Theresa’s, Briarcliff Manor; Msgr. John Ferry, St. Patrick, Bedford; Father Thomas Lynch, Immaculate Heart of Mary, Scarsdale; Msgr. Desmond O’Connor, St. Joseph, Kingston; and Father William Scafidi, St. Mary-St. Peter, Kingston.
All the appointments will become effective July 1.

Father Edward Bader has served as pastor of St. Aloysius parish in Livingston Manor since 2012. He has served as dean of Sullivan County since 2016, a post he will retain. He was pastor of St. Mary’s, Marlboro, 2001-2012, and administrator of St. Joan of Arc, the Bronx, 1994-2001, where he earlier was parochial vicar for two years. He also served as parochial vicar of St. Francis de Sales, Manhattan; St. Peter, Haverstraw; Christ the King, the Bronx; and Holy Name of Jesus, Manhattan. He was ordained in 1982.

Father Joseph Bisignano has served since 2016 as pastor of St. Patrick parish, Bedford. He was pastor of St. Patrick, Yorktown Heights, 2005-2016, and St. John the Evangelist in Beacon, 1995-2004. In 2000, he also became the pastor of St. Joachim in Beacon. He served as the pastor of the merged parish of St. Joachim and St. John the Evangelist, 2004-2005. He earlier was parochial vicar at St. Columba’s, Hopewell Junction; St. Clare of Assisi, the Bronx; Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Elmsford; and St. Joseph, Kingston. He was ordained in 1981.

Msgr. John Ferry has served since 2006 as pastor of Immaculate Heart of Mary parish, Scarsdale. He has served since 2011 as dean of Central Westchester, a post he will retain. He was associate rector of St. Patrick’s Cathedral, 2001-2006, and a parochial vicar at the cathedral, 1996-2001. He also served at St. Anthony’s, Nanuet, 1989-1996, and St. Brendan, the Bronx, 1984-1989. He was ordained in 1984 and named a monsignor in 2001.

Father Thomas Lynch has served as pastor at Our Lady of Angels, the Bronx, since 2007. He was administrator at Nativity, Manhattan, 2006-2007. He served as professor of Church history at St. Joseph’s Seminary, Dunwoodie, 1998-2006, and was director of pastoral formation at the seminary and dean of the Cathedral Prep program for high school students. He was parochial vicar at Holy Family, the Bronx, 1992-1994. He did graduate studies at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., 1994-1998. He was ordained in 1992.

Msgr. Desmond O’Connor has served as pastor of St. Kateri Tekakwitha in Lagrangeville since 2007. He was director of priest personnel, 2002-2007. He was pastor of St. Stephen, Warwick, 1997-2002. He was headmaster of Cathedral Preparatory Seminary, 1993-1997, and procurator and dean of students at St. John Neumann Residence, 1990-1993. He was parochial vicar of St. Mary’s, Wappingers Falls, and St. Augustine’s, New City. He was ordained in 1980 and named a monsignor in 1999.

Father William Scafidi has served as pastor of St. Peter in Liberty since 2015. He was pastor of St. Mary’s in Newburgh, 1998-2015, and was administrator there for two years. He was a parochial vicar of St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Manhattan; St. Margaret, Pearl River; and Sacred Heart, Newburgh. He was ordained in 1983.
