Pastors Named for Staten Island Parishes

Two pastors were appointed to parishes on Staten Island, the Cardinal’s Office announced.

Father Joy Mampilly was named pastor of Our Lady Star of the Sea. Father Jacob Thumma was appointed pastor of St. Ann’s and administrator of St. Sylvester’s, Staten Island, where he served as pastor, 2009-2021. 

Both assumed their new roles Oct. 15.

Father Mampilly had served as pastor of St. Ann, Staten Island, 2010-2021, and was pastor of Immaculate Conception, Manhattan, 2001-2010. He was parochial vicar at Sacred Heart, 2000-2001, and Holy Rosary, 1986-2000, both on Staten Island. Ordained in 1984 in his native India as a member of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate, he was incardinated into the archdiocese in 2000. He holds a master's degree from Kerala University in India and a doctorate from Fordham University in the Bronx, both in social work.

Father Thumma served as parochial vicar of St. Theresa of the Infant Jesus parish, the Bronx, 2007-2009; Our Lady Queen of Peace, Staten Island, 2002-2007; and St. Aedan’s, Pearl River, 1999-2002. He was ordained in 1993 in his native India after studying for the priesthood there and was incardinated into the archdiocese in 2009. He earned a bachelor’s degree in English literature from Fordham University, the Bronx.
