Priest of Archdiocese Is Laicized

Kevin Gallagher, who had served as a priest of the archdiocese since his ordination in 1998, has been granted a dispensation from the obligations of the clerical state by the Vatican’s Congregation for Clergy. This return to the lay state, often referred to as “laicization,” means that Gallagher may not function or present himself as a priest, and he is dispensed from his priestly obligations.

Gallagher was removed from his assignment in 2015 following accusations that he had an improper relationship with a 19-year-old man. The individual who brought the allegation against Gallagher further charged that Gallagher had given him money to purchase heroin.

With his laicization, Gallagher will never again be permitted to serve as a priest in New York or elsewhere.

I was assured that if I voluntarily applied for laicization, no press release would be made. This proved to be one of the many lies made by the Cardinal and his staff. The man with whom I had consensual sex was 21. He borrowed money for his father's rent, etc. He also borrowed money for suboxone which he claimed was a detox medication. He told church investigators that he never told me that he was actually buying heroin but that I should have known. The man in question was neither a parishioner nor a Catholic. Furthermore, I was offered a financial settlement if I voluntarily applied for laicization which would have been taken off the table if I didn't. This settlement is now in question.

I will keep you in my prayers Fr. Gallagher, " Tu es Sacerdos in aeternum" just remember that God is love and Mercy and that He wants us all next to Him, specially us sinners. Know that the closer you are to God, the more you will be tempted and that is exactly what Satan wants the destruction of our Holy Church. The vocation we must seek is sanctity and to do all we can to achieve it. The privilege of having turn bread into the body of Christ will never be taken from you, only God knows how many souls you saved. Now be as merciful to yourself and sacrifice a bit more by forgiving and understanding the snares of Satan. I will not judge you, but as a Sister in Christ that prays for you and all your Brother Priest I will ask you to rise and set a precedent of love, forgiveness and mercy. Prayers, and recourse to our Lady will give you peace and always the Sacrament of confession; may the peace of our Lord be with you!, God bless you Father!!!.
