Priestly Care for Dying

Posted

Our family wants to thank you so much for your May 21 article about the priest volunteers for hospital and nursing home visits during Covid-19.

Thanks to your article by Dan Pietrafesa, we knew enough to contact the priests at St. Columba’s Church in Hopewell Junction to request they visit our brother, John, who was in a hospice in Poughkeepsie.

Through the efforts of Father Michael McLoughlin, the pastor; Father Michael Connolly, the volunteer priest; and ourselves, we obtained consent for Father Connolly to visit John and administer the sacrament of the sick and dying a few days before he died.

We are extremely grateful to your staff for publishing the article and to Father Connolly for being there in this time of need.
