Priests to Receive St. John the Baptist Medal June 23

A Mass and dinner to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the archdiocese’s Comite Fiesta de San Juan Bautista will take place at St. Cecilia’s Church in East Harlem Friday, June 23, beginning at 6 p.m. St. John the Baptist is the patron saint of Puerto Rico.

A total of 19 bishops and priests, including one posthumously, will receive the St. John the Baptist medal for their service to the Hispanic community.

This year’s format marks a break with tradition. In the past, one prominent Puerto Rican in the field of religion, education, arts, medicine and other disciplines was honored for improving the life of the Church and the city.
