Prudence (Prue) Sanford Regan, who served as chair of the Friends of the Inner-City Scholarship Fund gala, died Sept. 11 at her home in Westerly, R.I. She was 97.

A longtime supporter of the Inner-City Scholarship Fund, which benefits Catholic school students in inner-city schools in the archdiocese, Mrs. Regan served as gala chair, 1984-1985.

Raised in Cranford, N.J., the graduate of Bradford Junior College in Haverhill, Mass., was an award-winning gardener at homes in Bedford, Rhode Island and Florida.

Her husband of 62 years, Jack Regan, died in 2011.

Her children, John M. Regan III, Deborah R. Edwards, Peter M. Regan, R. Christopher Regan, Prudence R. Hallarman and William M. Regan, survive her. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Her funeral service will be private, and a celebration of her life will be held next summer.
