Religious Jubilarians Celebrate

The biographical information for the following religious jubilarians was submitted too late to be included in the Jubilarians section published in Catholic New York’s Nov. 5 issue: 

FRANCISCAN MISSIONARYSISTERS OF THE SACRED HEART
75 Years
Sister Giovannina Gemin, F.M.S.C., a native of Treviso, Italy, entered the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart in Gemona, Italy, before coming to the United States in 1948. She began working in the motherhouse kitchen, preparing food for 600 children of St. Joseph's Home and for 100 sisters there. She retired in 2005 after 57 years of food service in Peekskill. She resides in the sisters' infirmary.

50 Years
Sister Laura Morgan, F.M.S.C., a native of Elmwood Park, N.J., entered the Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Heart, Peekskill, in 1970. Her assignments were at Sacred Heart School, Highland Falls, 1974-1980, where she was a Montessori teacher for grades 1, 2 and 3; Franciscan High School, Mohegan Lake, 1980-1988; pastoral care team member at St. Agnes Hospital, White Plains, 1988-1991; pastoral associate at Our Lady of Sorrows, White Plains, 1991-2015; prison ministry, 1980-2015; and provincial superior for her community, 2015-present.

URSULINE SISTERS
60 Years
Sister Ann Peterson, O.S.U., taught at Blessed Sacrament School, New Rochelle, 1962-1964, and was principal of The Ursuline School, New Rochelle, 1967-1974. A licensed social worker, she worked at White Plains Hospital, 1988-1994, and volunteered at St. Vincent’s, Harrison, 2013-2019. During her Ursuline leadership tenure, she also served on several boards of trustees.

50 Years
Sister Martha Counihan, O.S.U., taught art in Ursuline schools. She created visual materials for pastoral work in Latin American rural communities. Fluent in Spanish, she served as chaplain of several New York health care institutions. Currently serving as archivist for the Ursulines, she served more than 25 years as archivist/special collections librarian at the College of New Rochelle.
