Serges Lamaute, S.D.B., the first Haitian Salesian, died April 26 at Bon Secours Maria Manor in St. Petersburg, Fla. He was 90. He served in Goshen, 1990-1991, in youth work and as a chaplain to sisters. For many years he served in parishes and as a teacher and hospital chaplain in Haiti, Cuba and the Dominican Republic. He joined the Salesians' New Rochelle Province after becoming an American citizen in 1986. He also served in Ohio and Louisiana. A Funeral Mass was celebrated April 30 at Mary Help of Christians Chapel in Tampa, Fla. Burial took place at the Salesian Cemetery in Goshen.
