Sister Agnes Mary Joy, M.M., who served at Ben Taub Medical Center in Houston for 41 years, died Aug. 13 at the Maryknoll Sisters Center in Ossining. She was 89.
Sister Agnes Mary was at Ben Taub, 1973-2014, including service as director of chaplains and supervisor of the clinical pastoral education program.
She was assistant director of the formal education department and a member of the orientation team at Maryknoll, 1969-1973, and also served in Missouri, Mexico and Panama.
Born in Newburgh, she entered the Maryknoll Sisters Novitiate in 1954 and professed final vows in 1963.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in English and philosophy from the College of St. Rose, Albany, and a master’s in history from The Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C.
Burial was Aug. 18 in Maryknoll Sisters Cemetery, Ossining. A Memorial Mass will be scheduled at a later date.
