Sister Agnes O’Connor, R.C.D.

Sister Agnes O’Connor, R.C.D., who served as president of the Sisters of Our Lady of Christian Doctrine, died Aug. 13 at Tolstoy Nursing Home in Valley Cottage. She was 93.

She served as president of her religious congregation, 2002-2010,

Sister Agnes served as a catechist and religious educator at St. John the Evangelist, Beacon, 1997-2002; St. Patrick, Verplank, 1964-1976; Our Lady of Grace, the Bronx, 1948-1951; SS. Peter and Paul, Mount Vernon, 1946-1947; and St. Brigid, Manhattan, 1945-1946. She also served in Florida.

She was director of temporary professed sisters, 1964-1976, and served as superior of Madonna House in Manhattan, 1958-1964.

Born in the Bronx, she entered the Sisters of Our Lady of Christian Doctrine in 1942 and made final vows in 1948. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Manhattan College. She held a master’s in sacred studies from St. Bonaventure University in Olean, and a master’s in religious education from Boston College.

Her sister, Marjorie Clifford, survives her.

A Funeral Mass was offered Aug. 16 at Marydell Convent in Nyack. Burial was at Ascension Cemetery in Airmont.
